A synthetic demo grid, classed with equal intervals — the point is the palette against real basemap ink, not the data. Switch themes to see how much basemap the palette leaves room for.

Provenance
Accent is ColorBrewer's "mostly quiet with two loud ones" qualitative scheme: six soft pastels plus a saturated magenta and a strong orange-brown, ending in grey. The asymmetry is deliberate — it is designed for maps where a couple of categories should stand out and the rest should merely be present. ColorBrewer does not flag it colorblind-safe, and this entry claims none.
When to use it
Use it when your categories are not equals: highlight one or two classes with the saturated members and let the pastels carry the background classes. Because the pastels are light, it wants a white or very pale basemap and generous polygon fills — it will not hold as thin lines. Do not use it when all categories are peers; the reader will read the loud ones as more important, because they are.
