A synthetic demo grid, classed with equal intervals — the point is the palette against real basemap ink, not the data. Switch themes to see how much basemap the palette leaves room for.

Provenance
GnBu runs pale green to deep blue across seven classes — one of the ColorBrewer sequential schemes that pairs adjacent hues rather than opposing ones, which is what keeps the ramp reading as a single ordered scale rather than two. It comes from the same 2002 Brewer and Harrower work and carries ColorBrewer's colorblind-safe flag.
When to use it
Natural fit for hydrology and anything with a water reading: precipitation, runoff, flood depth, wetland extent. The green low end is light enough to sit over a pale landcover basemap without muddying it, while the dark blue top reads clearly against most terrain. If your basemap already uses blue for water, either mute the basemap or move to a warm ramp — otherwise the top classes read as lakes.
