Batlow W

Crameri scientific colour maps (batlowW)

Basemap

A synthetic demo grid, classed with equal intervals — the point is the palette against real basemap ink, not the data. Switch themes to see how much basemap the palette leaves room for.

Provenance

BatlowW is the white-ended variant of batlow: the same navy-to-tan trajectory, extended to pure white at the top rather than stopping at pale pink. Crameri publishes the W and K variants for figures that need one end of the scale pinned to a page extreme. It comes from the same Zenodo release of the Scientific colour maps and carries the same MIT license and the same documented CVD readability.

When to use it

The right batlow for a light basemap when high values should fade out rather than shout — a coverage or confidence surface where "lots" is the uninteresting case. The white top class merges with a white background, so either accept that as an intentional fade-to-nothing or add a hairline polygon outline. Reverse it if you want the opposite reading, with white as the floor.
