A synthetic demo grid, classed with equal intervals — the point is the palette against real basemap ink, not the data. Switch themes to see how much basemap the palette leaves room for.

Provenance
Broc is one of the trio of Crameri diverging maps (with cork and vik) built on the same construction: two perceptually uniform arms meeting at a light neutral, with matched lightness at matched distance from the center. Broc's arms are blue and olive-brown, ending near-black on the warm side. Like the rest of the Scientific colour maps it is versioned on Zenodo under MIT and documented as readable under color vision deficiency and in grayscale.
When to use it
A quieter diverging option than roma or vik for maps that already carry a lot of color — put it on landcover or soil-related signed data, where the olive arm reads as earth rather than as an alarm. The dark olive extreme is heavy; if your positive tail is long, cap the classes so the top bin does not swallow the map. Works well printed, because both arms hold their order in grayscale.
