Crameri scientific colour maps (cork)

Basemap

A synthetic demo grid, classed with equal intervals — the point is the palette against real basemap ink, not the data. Switch themes to see how much basemap the palette leaves room for.

Provenance

Cork is the blue-to-green member of Crameri's diverging set: deep indigo on one arm, dark green on the other, meeting at a near-white grey. Because both arms sit on the cool side of the wheel it avoids the warm/cool "good versus bad" reading that red-blue ramps carry, which is why it turns up in vegetation and hydrology work. MIT-licensed via the Zenodo release of the Scientific colour maps, with the family's documented CVD readability.

When to use it

Good for signed change in green things — NDVI difference, canopy gain and loss, wetland change — where a red arm would imply a judgement the data does not support. Both arms are dark at the extremes, so it needs a pale basemap to keep the middle classes legible. If your readers are used to red-blue, add an explicit legend note: cork does not inherit that convention.
